Well gang,as you guys know,I've been looking at other possibilities for a replacement machine, but not because there's anything wrong with mine, but because I just want one more new machine before I croak. So today,I took out a brandy new 2017/18 HD Road King,[they're identical and come equipped with HD's NEW Milwalkie Eight motor],thinking,or should I say "hoping" that the M8 would make a difference.Well, the long and short of it is,with the exception of that new motor,it's basically the same old, same old.So needless to say,and being some what "disappointed",I respectfully passed on it cause it's just not for me.And then, they even offered me 1 1/2 times the book value of my Tbird if I bought that Road King because they couldn't believe the condition it was in or how well it ran for its' age and especially, the mileage.
Now "IF" the Tbird was still available, more specifically, the Commander,I'd buy it in a heart beat. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,they're now only offered over seas.
Anyways,the search continues!!!

Dave, don't shoot me until you taken a look. Have you looked at the new Goldwing, lighter weight, more streamlined.
You could probably put 400,000 miles on that bike, if the god lord is willing. Probably same $$$ range as that Road dog, er I mean Road King.

Remember,I do all my own work and won't let those people touch my stuff cause all they do is FUCK IT UP and "THEN" charge me for the favor,or, tell me how "THEY ALL DO THAT"!!! In case ya didn't know this, the incompetence of these so called "technicians"is all over the place,no matter which dealer you go to!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! I know there are some good techs out there, but far and few between, not to mention, finding em!!

Have you tried the Suzuki Intruder? Yes it's a big heavy bike but it doesn't feel heavy to ride - it's mega comfy with a really good ride - the engines are bulletproof and it has a shaft drive. The 240 section rear tyre will definitely put you off though!

Same here Fab, this or a multistrada after Triumph has dumped the heavy cruiser from its range.

for me Dave, if I had to change it would be the Road King or the Guzzi Audace, but you dont like either of them. and I wont be changing.
cant think whatelse to recommend as there isnt much in the cruiser segment that excites me.
mind you Ducati just released an 1100 cc scrambler that looks the goods to me
good luck with the search.

I do NOT care for the Goldwings' design [I think it's fugly] or the six cylinder motor used in it. I don't want or need a rocket ship, just a nice cruiser to enjoy and ride off into the sun set with. But thank you for the suggestion.

Ok, I get that you think it's ugly, yep it's not a Vtwin or a Ptwin. But you said the GW is a tank but you took a battleship for a test ride, the Roadking

I'm pretty sure that if my life had turned out a lot better financially, that would be my next bike. Or i should say, would NOW be my bike. I hate modern bike tech like exo frames and such, but thats about the only one i like. But theres so much more to like than the look. Amazing bike. I won't even test ride one for fear i'd never be able to get it out of my mind, and i certainly will never be able to own one. Dealer was trying to get me to demo one a while back (my dealer is ducati/triumph/guzzi/agusta) and i wanted to badly but i knew it would be a big mistake.

probably a good thing you didn't take one for a ride, as I have spent a lot of extra money on my bike for comfort hp ,tork and handling.
but this beast is worlds above my bike in every way and it is stock but they are two different types of bikes in my books, I love my tbird and wouldn't sell it ever I don't think, the Ducati is what I would call a muscle bike and probably wouldn't do long trips on it and only has a small fuel tank capacity.
I think this ducati would tear up tyres a lot fast than the tbird but what fun it will be doing that

Probably only if you ride it like that, which of course would be hard not to do. But i think if you rode it the same as the Tbird it would eat less rubber simply because it's power is higher up and it has less torque and it's up higher in the RPM range and it's about 300 Lbs lighter. Problem with the bird is it has a ton of torque way down to 2k and is heavy. Taking off from a stop will eat rubber like crazy even without taking off hard.

To each his own, but that Duc looks like it was just taken off the set of a "Tron" movie. Not for me.
Rather have the Gold Wing, but not at $23K! Seriously Dave, if you have no reason to doubt the integrity of your 'Bird, why sell it, let alone trade it in at 1/2 of what you'd sell it for? I'd be willing to bet that the way you've cared for it, it'd hit the 250K mark! Maybe you'd go down it the Triumph history book for most mileage!
Imagine this:
"Most mileage on any Triumph... Dave Czykowinzkerrvocherowitzski"

The ride may be fun, but in the Great Scheme of things, it really is about the destination! John 3:16

I agree with ya about that Ducati. To me,it looks like some one welded a bunch of pipes together, then thru a motor in it.IMO,it's Super Fugly!!! Regarding my Tbird, there's nothing really wrong with it,but because the years are slowly, but surely, creeping up on me, I just want one more new bike before I leave this world!! But then again, since only the good die young,I'm gonna be here forever and if nothing else, just to aggravate you guys! That old fart,Dave!!!

Thats what duc calls it, but i agree 100%....its not a cruiser. However, while the reasons i like it are many, the one that i couldn't do without are the more cruiser like ergos. It has a low seat and more forward pegs without which i would never own one. And like Dave, i'm not crazy about the (bunch of pipes welded together" look. But unlike other sport bikes this one has more sleek lines like a non spportbike. Like the Tbird in a way. Not the same lines, but like the Tbird the lines are sleek and low unlike the sportbikes it evolved from. In short, it's the only modern bike i have seen that combines a lot of non sportbike ergos and looks with sportbike handling and insane power. A combination that to me is a package that has it all. Granted, i could never see it as being as beautiful as the Tbird which to me is the most beautiful bike ever made. But you get so much in trade for some cosmetic perfection i think you get far more than what u r giving up.

Now if you gave the Tbird another 30hp, removed that horrid noise so many of us have, made the rear wheel far easier to remove and easy belt adjustment and make valve adjustment a cheap or simple procedure, I'd push the duc aside to get to it. But thats just not the case.

Sorry to hijack your HardlyWorthison thread Dave - but to the beauty above - if the X-Diavel was out when I bought my Storm I would have bought it instead - absolutely no question. My second bike is a lot like an X Diavel in a way - I have an MT10 - which is very comfortable, quick and superb handling, I've just put panniers and heated grips on it and the Storm collects dust at the moment - although it should be said, I love the look of the Storrn and the thing that's bugging me about it is the awful (EBC HH) brake pads. My particular Storm is probably faster than the Duke - but there's no way it would stay in sight of the Italian in the twisties.

Hey Dave, back to your dilemma...spending all that cash on another cycle it'd be a lot cheaper to disassemble the Bird, add a few upgrades and paint the tins a new colour. ...you'd think it was a new bike.

you can thank me later.
